Hocus Pocus I Need Coffee to Focus... 5 magical spices and their benefits

Author: Mai Gan

Hello all you witches and ghouls! In honor of Halloween, we're sharing  thousand-year-old spells to add to your coffee cauldron.

Don't be surprised if you start to feel the effects of some of these powerful spells using ancient spices and herbs!

1. Gymnema Sylvestre - Spell to cure your sweet tooth

If you find yourself eating the leftover trick-or-treat candy, Gymnema Sylvestre might do the trick.

  • Cures your sweet tooth by making sweet foods taste less appealing. In return, it helps lower blood sugar levels and improve your cholesterol

How to cast

  • Can be found in supplement capsule form, or as dried leaves which you can add to hot water as tea, or even add to your coffee.
  • Don't mix it with other herbs or medicines which are aimed to reduce blood sugar or your blood sugar could drop too much causing you to have a headache, lightheadedness, or dizziness.
Magic words:

Chant 10 times:

“This coffee will taste so sweet;
It will be my favorite treat.”

2. Licorice Root - Spell to calm the nerves and find love

Not just a deliciously flavored candy, licorice root has some excellent benefits for the body and mind. Frequently used in love spells.

  • Known for it's calming effect, licorice root has been proven to help reduce stress, as well as soothe a stomach ache.

How to cast

  • Available as a liquid or powder extract. Add a tsp to your morning coffee for a little extra flavor and sweetness.
  • But don't add too much or drink it too often as some side effects include muscle weakness, fluid retention, metabolism abnormalities, high blood pressure, swelling and heartbeat irregularity

Magic words:

"One two three

love will set you free"

3. Cardamom - spell to warm the soul

One of our favorite spices to add to our coffee (aka The Bombay Latte)

  • Not only is it delicious, but cardamom helps protect against inflammation and oxidative stress. It's been used in different cultures to relieve digestive issues.

How to cast

  • This very potent spice should be used very lightly. A small sprinkle in the bottom of your coffee cup will add a lot of flavor. Too much will taste too bitter.

Magic words

"Warm thy senses

calm thy nerves

see thy dreams

unfold in herds"

4. Turmeric - spell to sharpen the mind

The golden powder our witches love!

  • An ancient spice now more popular than ever helps reduce inflammation and even support brain health as we age.

How to cast

  • Mix a tea spoon of turmeric with 2 oz of hot water in the bottom of your cup. Stir until the water turns golden and add coffee or hot water. We also love adding honey and cinnamon to this treat!

Magic Words:

"Unleash the magic of the golden power

for now is the midnight hour

for my mind to awaken like a flower"

5. Triphala - the ultimate healing spell

After a night of spells and haunting, you're going to need a detox. The three sisters, aka the Triphala is the perfect detoxifying spell.

This special blend originated in India and is made up of three magical fruits: Amalaki, Bibhitaki, and Haritaki.

  • Amalaki, also known as "mother" is an Indian goose berry with such strong powers it has been known as the ultimate healer for it's immune restorative properties. Bibhitaki is also commonly used in Ayurvedic medicine to treat diabetes and blood sugar deregulation. Throw in a little skin and hair promoting properties in Haritaki and you have the ultimate trifecta, or triphala ;)

How to cast

Our favorite way to enjoy Triphala is in tea form. Just add some hot water to the powder and stir.

Magic words

"Mother healer of the trees

these three berries do you please

make my tea taste good and sweet

for my soul this is a treat"

**The spells will work their magic best if used with organic ingredients, and on a full moon.

*Remember little witches, everything in moderation!

Enjoy trying out your new spells on yourself or your subjects and have a happy and safe Halloween!
